This post did not take the first time so read this first then my above post

Hello all you Alltel users. I have tried the steps above and I was not able to add ringtone to this LG Tritan that I have but after some play i found out that i can add ringtones.

What had to do is follow the steps above.  Download Bitpim set it to LG Dare (VX9700) open up the file system.
I had to add the ringtone to the /brew/media/lk/ms/ directory AND THEN I also had to go to media/ringers in bitpim and add the ringtone there. LASTLY I had to press the send data to phone directory.

When I tried to just add the file to the /brew/media/lk/ms/ directory OR
if i added the ringtone to the media/ringers --send data to phone -- using bitpim to add the ringtone it did not work.

I hope that this helps someone I do not like Alltel for this un-welcome feature, but hay it will not be Alltel for that much longer......
